The Modern Foreign Languages Curriculum

As the UK is becoming an increasingly multi-cultural society, we have a duty to provide our pupils with an understanding of other cultures and languages. We value every member of our school community and believe that all pupils shall have the opportunity to develop their MFL capability.

Our aims, in-line with the National Curriculum, are:

  • To teach pupils to listen to, speak, read and write a Modern Foreign Language, which is French currently and from September 2024 will be Spanish
  • To provide pupils with an enriching and exciting curriculum
  • To develop communication skills and confidence, within an appropriate and meaningful  context
  • To awaken an interest in different cultures and lifestyles
  • To give a sound start for further development at Key Stage 3 and beyond

We teach the pupils to know and understand how to:

  • Ask and answer questions
  • Use correct pronunciation and intonation
  • Memorise words
  • Interpret meaning
  • Understand basic grammar
  • Use bilingual dictionaries
  • Work in pairs and groups to communicate in a foreign language
  • Look at life in another culture

Our aim is to make teaching and learning French (Spanish) an easy, fun experience for both pupils and teachers
