The Physical Education Curriculum

At Chasetown Community School, all pupils follow the National Curriculum so that every pupil can access a broad and rich Physical Education curriculum. This ensures that pupils at Chasetown Community School can:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities.
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time.
  • engage in competitive sports and activities.
  • lead healthy, active lives.

Within the National Curriculum pupils are exposed to healthy competition that happens within weekly PE lessons, extra-curricular football sessions, cricket matches and weekly swimming lessons.

The pupils are all separated into four different houses, and they will compete during inter house games that take place throughout the academic year linking in with the PE curriculum that is delivered throughout the year along with a sports day.

Every Key Stage 2 pupil is exposed to a weekly 30-minute swimming lesson in which they are expected to swim 25 metres by the end of Key Stage 2 through the Learn to Swim programme from Swim England. Key Stage 3 pupils are also offered the opportunity to have swimming lessons. This is because we understand that swimming is a life skill as well as being able to sustain a healthy balanced lifestyle that is beneficial towards the pupil’s mental wellbeing.

We believe that our PE curriculum is enhanced by extra-curricular activities to support our pupils needs. The activities we offer are:

  • Sports therapy interventions.
  • Horse riding
  • Boccia tournaments
  • Cricket coaching from Staffordshire County Cricket Club
  • Burton Albion Football club
