Details on transport/closure due to poor weather.
As our pupils are transported in to school from a wide area and the weather conditions often vary from one
part of the county to another, it may be necessary to cancel the transport and close the school in the event
of storms, strong winds or heavy snowfall around the school, on the grounds of Health and Safety.
Likewise you may feel that because of weather conditions where you live that it is not safe to send your child.
If you decide not to send you child because of the prevailing weather conditions in your area please notify
the school and the taxi company as soon as possible.
If the school is closed to some or all of the pupils due to bad weather the closure will be announced:
• on the Staffordshire school closures website: https://apps2.staffordshire.gov.uk/sln/schoolclosures/
You can sign up on this site to be alerted if our school announces a closure.
• on our website: www.chasetowncommunity.staffs.sch.uk
• by the Headteacher contacting transport operators to advise them that the school is closed.
• by the school texting all parents for whom we hold a mobile number: if you believe we do not have your
most up-to-date mobile please contact the school.
If the school is open transport operators may still feel that it is unsafe to make a journey because of the
weather in their district or because further bad weather is forecast before the end of the day. They can
make the decision not to operate a run. They will advise parents/carers and the school of this as soon as
possible.
For parents/carers who transport their own children
- If the school is closed: the Headteacher will notify parents/carers who transport their own children.
- If the school is open: But you decide that the journey is not safe due to prevailing weather conditions
then please notify the school.
If the weather deteriorates during the day and we take the decision to close early, we will ensure that
there is someone at home to receive your child before they are allowed to leave the school.
